Trail Pittsburgh is asking for you to support the hard work of our volunteer Trail Stewards by contributing to our first ever Trail Fund. This Fund will make sure Stewards have the tools, supplies, and gear needed to hosts work days in the 18+ City and County parks that we work in. Our goal is to raise $500 per park to buy food for volunteers, rakes, handsaws, and shovels to get the job done. These funds go fast but we will work together to make them go as far as possible.
Why We’re Doing It
With 200 miles of trails used by bikers, hikers, and runners, things get a bit muddy. We will be doing a lot by doing a little all over the region.
Trail Pittsburgh works with Stewards in each of our 18+ parks to coordinate workdays to building and maintaining the best outdoor experiences in Western PA. Workdays involve more than showing up with tools, the following steps go into planning each one:
Coordinating with Park Stewards to find out what they need.
Create simple budgets for work days to build awesome trails.
Bring tools, food, and supplies for Park Workdays.
Go for a trail hike, run, or bike ride!
You might not know this but 90% of all work in County and City Parks are done by hand. This means no power tools, chain saws, or other machines making trails. Volunteers move rocks, dirt, and logs all by hand. Last year over volunteers worked over 12,500 hours, this is worth nearly $300,000 of in kind investment! Let’s work together to make sure they can get the best tools possible to make their job just a bit easier.
Trail Fund Goal: $10,000
If we can reach our goal, we can provide the following:
- $4,000 Volunteer Supplies for work days
- $3,000 Tools and trailer transport
- $2,000 Volunteer Management Management
- $1,000 Trailer Maintenance
