For over 2 decades, a section of the Switchback trail near the crossing to Abbey’s trail, has been difficult to make sustainable. On March 31 volunteers review and flagged a cross contour area for reroute.
On April 5, we received approval from the Park Manager and scheduled a workday on April 28. 5 volunteers, two who were new to Trail Pittsburgh, bench cut a few hundred feet of new single track. We also closed access to the old section. although this new piece continues a challenging climb, it will be more sustainable and will eliminate any ongoing work to the muddy unsustainable section.
